Today Duncan was suspended for three days for an unrelated incident. Damn. Recovering from three days of missed school will really hurt this kid. There was some scuffle on the bus (where he's bussed almost 1 hour to come to our school) and he and another student were both suspended. ARGH!
I did learn an interesting fact about Duncan today which might explain his highs and lows. Duncan is SLD (specifically learning disabled) and spent ALL of elementary school in a 'special ed' type classroom designed for students with his disabilities. This year, since his teachers saw such great things last year, he's in a regular ed room for the whole day. I'm thinking that the daily grind of a 6th grade life is wearing on him. Changing classes five times a day, different teachers and rules in each classroom, keeping all earthly possessions in a locker down the hall, etc.
My team is speaking to the administration tomorrow about Duncan's suspension. We would LOVE for him to serve IN-school suspension rather than out. He could at least be at school, working, rather than at home, on 'punishment' from his mom and NOT doing any school work. We'll see how it goes....
